Manokaran Mottain was appointed as a Board member of MAVCAP on 15 May 2022. Manokaran Mottain recently retired as the Chief Economist of Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad effective 5th November 2021, after serving the Bank for the past nine years since 2012. Prior to that, he was the Director of Economic Research at AmBank Group between 2006-May 2012, Chief Economist cum Research Manager at SBB Securities between 1996-06, after serving as Economist at Bank Negara Malaysia for 10 years (1987-96).
Mano, a former Bank Negara employee, received a postgraduate scholarship in 1993 to study Development Economics at Victoria University of Manchester. He has a Bachelor of Economics from University Kebangsaan Malaysia. Mano’s strengths include economic analysis, idea conceptualization, seizing opportunities, and leading business development initiatives. He has also excelled in oral communication, client presentations, critical thinking, and personnel management. The Ministry of Human Resources appointed him as an Investment Panel member of the Human Resources Development Fund from 2016-2020, advising on macroeconomic conditions and investment strategies.
Mano, a renowned economist, has been appointed as a council advisor for the Faculty of Economic and Administration of UKM and as the Industrial Advisor for UKM. He has also served as a member of the National Economic Council and the 1lMP and 12MP panels for the Indians under MIC and MITRA. Mano has also served as PEMIKIR in the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives & Consumerism. He is also a member of several government Task Forces and the Advisory Board at Nottingham School of Economics, Malaysia campus. Mano has also been the Organising Chairman of a national conference on Growth & Inclusiveness – Transformation of Malaysian Indians beyond 2020. Following this, he leads the Malaysian Indian Economic Transformation (MIET).
He is a member of the Board Investment Committee & Nomination and Remuneration Committee of MAVCAP.
