Husni Salleh
Husni resigned as the CEO of MAVCAP in January 2011 when he was appointed as the CEO of Unit Peneraju Bumiputera, under the Prime Minister’s Department to strengthen the Bumiputera development agenda.
Prior to his appointment in TERAJU, Husni served as the CEO of Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd. (MAVCAP) from 1st September 2007 to 31st January 2011. As the CEO his main responsibility was not only to lead MAVCAP to become Malaysia’s premier venture capital (VC) company but also to carry out the government’s mission in nurturing the VC industry. Subsequent to that, he was Senior Vice President of Agency where his primary responsibility was spearheading the establishment of new VC funds and nurturing the development of technology companies in Malaysia and the region, with MAVCAP as an anchor investor.
Husni started his career in 1991 as an Investment Analyst in an investment firm after graduating with a B Sc in Business Administration (Finance) from West Virginia University, USA. He then assumed various positions at Nomura Advisory Services (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Nomura Securities, where his last appointment was as a Member of the Board of Nomura Advisory Services (M) Sdn Bhd, before leaving to join Natwest Markets (M) Sdn Bhd, where he successfully pioneered intensive fundraising road shows and advised fund managers from North America, Europe and Asia.
In 1998, Husni joined BI Walden Management Sdn Bhd. - the venture capital unit of Walden International Group which is a leading VC in Asia. From 2000 – 2004, Husni held key strategic positions in MSC Venture Corporation Sdn Bhd. - a subsidiary of the Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd. - where he led in various investment and fundraising activities for the organization and its portfolio companies.
